What Is An Implant?
A dental implant is a “root” device made of titanium, used to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth to replace missing teeth.
Virtually all dental implants placed today are shaped like a root and are placed in the bone. The bone of the jaw accepts and osseointegrates with the titanium implant. Osseointegration refers to the fusion of the implant surface with the surrounding bone. Once this osseointegration takes place, the implant will be ready to be restored and support a prosthesis (tooth or teeth replacements). An implant can support a single tooth replacement or multiple implants can support a bridge or help retain a denture.
At our office in Burbank, we provide restoration of implants. We do not place implants. We work with outstanding specialists in our area who place the implants. Dr. Tom and the specialist will treatment plan your case with your needs in mind to achieve the best result.
